As ISIS strongholds are being overrun by Iraqi soldiers, and the search for these vile cult members has begun, stories are emerging of brutal revenge killings.
Citizens who have been forced to live in appalling conditions for three years are now beginning to settle scores against those who have raped, murdered, brutalised and enslaved their loved ones.
Under the normal conditions of war captured prisoners must be afforded human rights and safe passage, to either a trial or release, under the terms of the Geneva Convention.
However, neither the citizens of Mosul, in northern Iraq, or liberating Iraqi soldiers believe such rights and rules need extending to the human vermin that make up the Islamic State.
Given the stories of barbarism and Islamic State’s own properganda material depicting burnings, beheadings, rape and crucifiction many observers are short on sympathy for their captured members.
THE IRAQI GOVERNMENT IS INVESTIGATING A VIDEO THAT APPEARS TO SHOW MEN IN ARMY UNIFORMS THROWING A PLEADING ISIS FIGHTER OFF A CLIFF BEFORE SHOOTING HIM.
IN THE VIDEO, THE PANICKING MAN IS TAUNTED AND BEATEN BY SEVERAL RIFLE-WIELDING TROOPS BEFORE BEING SLOWLY FORCED UP TO A PRECIPICE AND HURLED ONTO THE MOTIONLESS BODY OF ANOTHER MAN BELOW.
THE EXECUTION METHOD IS REMINISCENT OF ONE EMPLOYED BY ISIS, WHICH IS NOTORIOUS FOR KILLING PEOPLE IT DECIDES ARE GUILTY OF HOMOSEXUALITY BY THROWING THEM FROM HIGH BUILDINGS.
ACCORDING TO THE BBC, AN INTERIOR MINISTRY SPOKESMAN SAID THAT IF THE VIDEO – PURPORTEDLY FILMED IN RECENTLY-LIBERATED MOSUL – WAS GENUINE THEN THE SOLDIERS INVOLVED WILL BE BROUGHT TO JUSTICE.
THERE HAVE BEEN REPORTS BY HUMAN RIGHTS GROUPS THAT SOME IRAQI GOVERNMENT TROOPS ARE GUILTY OF TORTURE AND EXECUTION IN THE WAR AGAINST ISIS.
ONE MAN, FALAH AZIZ, CLAIMED TO HAVE BEHEADED 50 ISIS FIGHTERS AND STRESSED HE WAS COMPLETELY ‘AT EASE’ DOING SO.
Aziz’s answer to those who call him barbaric is sobering. ‘You don’t know what you would do until you’ve suffered what they have suffered.’
In one bloody video filmed he has beaten and executed an IS Jihadi.
Nobody attempts to stop him and some even cheer once he has finished, describing him as ‘the one who is slaughtering ISIS’. He responds, telling the camera: ‘This is your blood, you dogs.’
Speaking to Expressen, he said the beheaded man had been captured in a toilet block. He told war correspondent Magda Gad how it felt to cut someone’s head off.
‘Just that feeling, I can’t explain how at ease I am with it,’ he said.
After watching the footage, Donatella Rovera from Amnesty told Expressen it showed ‘war crimes being committed’ and called on Iraqi authorities and the international community to investigate.
But Aziz said: ‘They (ISIS) have driven us to it. What they’ve done has killed our compassion. Finding your brother slaughtered, or your mother slaughtered. What are you going to do? You don’t know what you’re going to do. What they have done to us, we must do to them.’
And the question for the West is, ‘does anybody care?’
